Longest tongue (female): Chanel Tapper (USA, above left) has a tongue that measured 9.75 cm (3.8 in), from tip to top lip, in California, USA, on 29 September 2010. The outright longest tongue record, though, is held by Stephen Taylor (UK) – his lengthy licker measured 9.8 cm (3.86 in) from tip to lip on 11 February 2009.

A Black and Tan Coonhound named Harbor, aged 8, from Boulder, Colorado, USA, has earned a spot in the Guinness World Records 2012 Edition for having the Longest Ears on a Living Dog. Owned by Jennifer Wert, Harbor’s left and right ears measure 12.25 inches and 13.5 inches respectively.

Longest cat: At 123 cm (48.5 in) long, Mymains Stewart Gilligan (aka Stewie) is the world’s longest domestic cat. The five-year-old feline is owned by Robin Hendrickson and Erik Brandsness (USA) and was measured on 28 August 2010. He also has the longest domestic cat tail at 41.5 cm (16.34 in).

Longest journey by skateboard: The longest journey by skateboard was 12,159 km (7,555 miles) and was completed by Rob Thomson (New Zealand) starting in Leysin, Switzerland on 24 June 2007 and finishing in Shanghai, China, on 28 September 2008.

Youngest person to row across any ocean solo (male): The youngest male rower to cross any ocean single-handed is Oliver Hicks (UK, b. 3 December 1981) who rowed Miss Olive, Virgin Atlantic across the Atlantic West to East solo and unsupported between 27 May and 28 September 2005 aged 23 years 175 days at the start. He rowed from Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, USA, to St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, UK, in 123 days 22 hr 8 min to become the first person and the youngest person to row solo and unsupported across the Atlantic West to East from USA land to land.

Youngest person to climb the Seven Summits including Carstensz (female): The youngest person to climb the seven summits (including Carstensz) is Samantha Larson (USA, b. 7 October 1988) who reached the seventh peak, Carstensz Pyramid, on 4 August 2007 aged 18 years 301 days.

Youngest person to fly solo around the world: Barrington Irving (Jamaica/USA, b. 11 November 1983), an aerospace student at Florida Memorial University, circumnavigated the globe in Inspiration, manufactured and assembled by the Columbia Aircraft Manufacturing Company, between 23 March and 27 June 2007. His landmark 97-day flight was also the first ever solo circumnavigation flight by a black pilot.
