Vets at the centre placed a mirror in her pen so they could keep an eye on her but it turns out that Snow White quite enjoys looking at herself.

A group of giant panda cubs nap at a nursery at the research base of the Giant Panda Breeding Centre in Chengdu, in southwest China’s Sichuan province. China has launched its once-a-decade panda census, trying to determine how many of the endangered animals live in the wild amid efforts to boost numbers. The census - the fourth since it was first launched in the 1970s - is also expected to ascertain pandas’ living conditions, ages and any change in habitat. According to the count a decade ago, there were 1,596 pandas left in the wild in China, with 1,206 of them living in Sichuan.

Harvest set up home inside a tennis ball. The family of three mice adopted the ball after their owner added it to their vivarium. Roger Tidman, who breeds the mice at his home, had a hole drilled for the mice. The wildlife photographer from Briston, Norfolk, has named the three after tennis players McEnroe, Sharapova and Henman. He said:

Tamblyn Williams carries six-month-old lion cub Jagger on her shoulders. Jagger arrived at Seaview Lion Park in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, from a different lion park where he was part of a breeding programme. But he was abandoned just days after birth and was taken in by Tamblyn who had just started as a volunteer at the park after moving to South Africa from Sydney, Australia, to study wildlife. A long line of lemurs sit on a log to catch up on some sleep at at Colchester Zoo in Essex. They huddle together, wrapping themselves in their black and white tails. Jonathan Chown took the photograph while on a visit to the zoo to celebrate his birthday with his wife and son. He says he watched the animals for 10 minutes without seeing them move once.
